A few words about us

Taverna Aris was born in 2005, when Aris’s parents, with years of experience in hospitality, decided to make their dream come true, to open a genuine Greek taverna in the heart of Athens, next to the Varvakeios Market.
The idea was simple yet essential, to serve daily food made with fresh ingredients from the market, fish, seafood, meat and vegetables, all of the day, all made with care.

The space that houses the taverna is no coincidence.
In the neoclassical building of Stoa Athanaton, one of the most famous hangouts of old Athens, there once operated the namesake rebetiko venue, a reference point for lovers of music and good food.
Today, this place comes alive again through the aroma of the grill, the homemade dishes and the warmth of a family taverna that keeps traditions alive.

What our customers love is simplicity, food made to order, without luxuries, but with authentic flavor and warm hospitality.
Here, every dish hides a story and every visit recalls the old days of Athens, when everything felt more genuine, more human.
For us, good food does not need excess, it needs quality ingredients, care and love for what you do.

Philosophy
Our philosophy as a family taverna is to offer authentic Greek Mediterranean food, with fresh and simple ingredients above all, which we source daily from the central market of Athens.
